AFOC has been part of the SkillsUSA organization since 1999. SkillsUSA is one of the nation’s premier Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO). Over the years, many classes have participated in the organization's events, our school is proud to have received more than 20 national medals! SkillsUSA provides regional (local), state, and national competitions for students enrolled in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, providing a bridge between industry and education. Membership is required, and SkillsUSA is the largest student organizations in the world. This year, Ms. Blanco’s Cosmetology and Ms. Brodie’s Graphic Design programs are competing in their field of training.
CTE students are recruited in the Fall Term to become members of the SkillsUSA organization. Instructors (Advisors) choose the students who will compete and represent the school. In January, the first round of competition is local, called REGIONALS; held at LA Trade Technical Community College. Contestants who win medals at regionals are advanced to the STATE level of competition; held in April, at the SkillsUSA California State Leadership and Skills Conference in San Diego. Following the state level competition, only Gold Medalists are invited to represent the State of California at NATIONALS; a week-long conference held in Louisville, Kentucky.
Good Luck to this year’s AFOC SkillsUSA Team Members as they move onto the state level of competition.
This year’s competitors are:
From Cosmetology – Alondra Campos, Ipolita Frahm, Astrid Galindo and José Sañchez
From Graphic Design – Gaby Diaz, Kevin Herrera and Darryl Hopkins
